💙 From Little Learners to Leaders: The Story of Teal and Blue

At My Place: A Play and Learning Center, every child’s day begins with curiosity and ends with connection. During FLX Gives, we’re celebrating two of our groups who embody what the LEAPs grant is all about—the Teal Group (Kindergarten & 1st grade) and the Blue Group (4th–6th grade).

🌟 The Teal Group: Where Discovery Begins

For our Teal Group, each day is an adventure. They’re learning to read, write, count—and more importantly—to care. Whether they’re sharing during Family Style Snack Time or building the tallest block towers together, they’re learning cooperation, patience, and pride in their accomplishments. Their laughter fills the room during STEM challenges, and their eyes light up when they discover something new about the world around them.

Thanks to community support, these young learners have access to enriching afterschool experiences that nurture both their academic growth and their hearts. For many, My Place is where they first begin to see themselves as capable students and kind friends.

💪 The Blue Group: Growing into Leaders

Just across the cafeteria, the Blue Group is learning what it means to lead. These 4th–6th graders have taken on mentorship roles, helping younger children with projects, homework, and playground games. They’re the first to volunteer to read aloud during literacy time or to help plan a community event.

This year, the Blue Group was the first group to fill their jar of stars where they celebrated by going to get ice cream together.  To earn stars, students help clean, show kindness and respect to others and are mindful of their bodies. These small acts ripple through the whole program. They’re learning that leadership isn’t about being in charge—it’s about lifting others up.
