Finn Academy: An Elmira Charter School

Finn Academy is a tuition-free public charter school located in Elmira, NY; this year we serve over 400 scholars and are operating in our 11th year of service to the community. We have built a wonderful school and community, supporting well over 1,000 scholars throughout the years. We educate our scholars with a focus on experiential learning, wellness, fitness, the arts, and STEM.

Charter schools have a difficult journey once they are approved to operate in New York State--we only receive a portion of the money allocated to a child for their education, and have to "do more, with less".  We receive approximately 28% less in per pupil aide compared to our host district, Elmira.  Therefore, it is necessary for us to make careful and specific budgeting decisions based on our limited resources. We have invested our resources in the “must haves” and have not been able to focus as much on the “want to haves”.

One example of this is our Finn Academy Drama Club.  This FLX Gives, help our 4th–6th grade scholars bring their creativity to life on stage! Your donation supports costumes, sets, scripts, and technical supplies — empowering students to grow as actors, stage crew, and directors. Every contribution helps our young performers build confidence, collaboration skills, and a love of the arts.
