Help the Laura Richardson Houghton Corning Youth Center Open Doors, Build Connections, and Spark Possibility for Local Kids!
Every afternoon and summer day, the Laura Richardson Houghton Corning Youth Center buzzes with laughter, learning, and creativity. From science experiments and art projects to shared meals and team games, our kids discover new skills, build friendships, and find a safe place to simply be themselves.
We’re a completely free program serving youth ages 8–18, open to all and welcoming to everyone who walks through our doors. That means there’s no cost to participate — removing one of the biggest barriers families face when seeking after school and summer opportunities. Still, even free programs aren’t free to run. We rely on community support to provide nutritious snacks and dinners, transportation, outreach, and the materials that make our days so engaging and meaningful.
Across the nation, studies from the Afterschool Alliance show that for every child in a program like ours, three more are waiting for a spot. But here in Corning, those kids do have a spot — if they can reach us and know we’re here. That’s where you come in.
Your Support Makes a Local Difference
When you give during FLX Gives (Thursday, November 13th at 6:00 pm until Friday, November 14th at 6:00 pm), you’re not just donating — you’re opening doors.
$15 helps fund a week’s worth of creative supplies for youth activities.
$25 provides healthy snacks and dinners for a child for a week.
$50 helps us reach more families through transportation and community outreach so no child misses out.
Your gift keeps our program free and accessible to everyone — and helps us reach those who haven’t found their place here yet.
Why It Matters
Every day after school, millions of kids across America go home to an empty house. But not in Corning — not if we can help it. The Laura Richardson Houghton Corning Youth Center is a safe, welcoming second home where young people explore who they are, learn life skills, and connect with caring mentors who believe in them.
Our programs emphasize whole-child wellness — nurturing emotional growth, building social skills, and promoting positive choices through prevention education, STEM and art enrichment, and partnerships with local organizations that help youth thrive. Whether they’re learning teamwork through games, practicing mindfulness on “Mindful Mondays,” or expressing themselves through creative arts, every moment here is designed to support confidence, connection, and community.
