Montour Falls Memorial Library

A nonprofit organization

For FLXGives 2024, donations will be used toward completing our current construction aid project. We are in the process of insulating our building and installing heating/cooling upgrades. Our basement and attic previously had little to no insulation and while significantly improved, there is additional work to be done. Our goals are to:

  • conserve and protect our building while looking toward sustainable maintenance and care
  • save fiscally in the long-term allowing more funds to be allocated to programs, services, and operational expenses
  • protect our beautiful and historic building and the surrounding environment
  • keep our patrons and staff comfortable
  • serve as a heating and cooling center during severe weather

Please note the yellow "Choose Your Own Amount" Button above. Donations of any amount are always welcome and appreciated.

Your FLXGives donation will directly support these goals and more. If you are not able to give at this time, please visit our Donate & Support page to see additional ways to support MFL. We hope to see you soon!

The Montour Falls Library creates an environment that nurtures intellectual freedom, encourages lifelong learning, offers open access to resources, supports new technologies, respects cultural diversity, and embraces the future. Your library card grants you access to over 1.2 million items from five counties (Schuyler, Chemung, Steuben, Yates, and Alleghany) and 48 libraries within the Southern Tier Library System. You can return and pick up most items from any library in the system and you only need one library card! Your Montour Falls Library card can be used at Watkins Glen, Odessa, Hector Libraries and beyond.

Libraries are more than books! Our physical collection includes books, movies, TV shows, documentaries, instruments, audiobooks and more. We also have digital content in our free app, Libby, where you can read eBooks and magazines, and listen to audiobooks right from your smart phone or tablet. Montour Falls Library has Wi-Fi available 24/7/365, public computers,  printing/copying for $0.25 per side, and scanning for free. Like and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see the latest program, service, and resource updates. You can find more information at montourfallslibrary.org

Who We Are

The Montour Falls Library was originally constructed in 1864 as The Bank of Havana. It was converted into a library between 1893 and 1904 - it's official induction. The library was a central hub for local history and research for many years before expanding its services as a public library by increasing its collection and offering unique programs. The library prides itself on outreach and service that meets the need of community in a meaningful way.
