Schuyler County Historical Society

The Schuyler County Historical Society is proud to be the caretaker of the county's history. From artifacts of the Lamoka people of 4,500 years ago to family genealogy and images of recent local events, we have something for everyone! Each year we provide Talkin' History programs on various topics of Schuyler's past, Walkin' History tours, Readin' History programs with local authors, and install an exhibition in our Community Gallery done with in conjunction with one of our partnerships that delves deeper into an aspect of Schuyler County's rich history. In 2025, we will also once again be working with our school district to bring local history into the classrooms for the students.

Who We Are

The Schuyler County Historical Society is located in Montour Falls, Schuyler County, New York, just south of Watkins Glen and Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes Region. The Society maintains three properties: the Brick Tavern Museum, a brick, Federal-style building built in 1828 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places; the Wickham Rural Life Center, honoring our agricultural heritage; and the Lee School Museum, a one-room schoolhouse, south of the Brick Tavern Museum, also on the National Register of Historic Places. Our museums celebrate Schuyler County’s rich history with special and permanent exhibits and lively programs, often presented with collaborators from a long list of partners. Our collections include diverse artifacts relating to the county's people and events, and our extensive research library is open to all users. Admission to all facilities is free, but donations are welcome. Our operations are supported by generous members, fundraisers and grants, including a Tourism Assistance Program grant administered by the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce.
