Discover 4‑H Camp Explore 🌱

4‑H Camp Explore in Chemung County is a vibrant day camp hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension. Designed for youth ages 6 to 12, it offers an engaging introduction to 4‑H through hands-on learning, outdoor adventures, and creative exploration.

What Makes It Special

  • Interactive Learning & Fun: Campers experience a wide range of activities—STEM projects, games, nature walks, crafts, and more—that reflect the 4‑H “learning by doing” approach. Each day blends education with play in a way that sparks curiosity and builds confidence.

  • Age-Appropriate Grouping & Mentorship: Campers are grouped by age, ensuring developmentally appropriate activities. Older youth may take on leadership roles as junior or senior counselors, gaining valuable mentoring experience.

  • Welcoming & Accessible: Camp Explore is open to both current 4‑H members and those new to the program. It's designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all families in the community.

Focus on Personal Growth

4‑H Camp Explore promotes key youth development outcomes through:

  • Problem-solving and creativity, especially in science and nature-based projects

  • Teamwork and communication, developed through games and group tasks

  • Leadership development, particularly for teen counselors and helpers

  • Skill-building in diverse areas, from cooking and gardening to art and environmental science

These experiences help children build confidence, friendships, and a sense of community—foundational elements of 4‑H’s mission to empower youth.

A Strong Tradition of Youth Programming

Camp Explore is part of a broader Chemung County 4‑H program that serves thousands of local youth year-round. In addition to summer programs, 4‑H members participate in clubs, fairs, leadership events, and educational contests. The program is led by a dedicated team of educators who foster positive youth development through inclusive, research-based experiences.
