Instilling a Love of Literacy 

United Way of the Southern Tier sponsors Dolly Parton's Imagination Library so that all young children in Chemung County and Steuben County can receive an age-appropriate book each month by mail.

Nearly 50% of children under age 5 in our area — that's more than 4,500!! — are enrolled in this FREE book-gifting program!

Please help support this program by donating today and instill a love of literacy in children.

While we love Dolly Parton, she does not pay for the books! Your donations do. 

A $30 gift will provide a book a month for a year — 12 books!! — to a child in Chemung or Steuben county.

Who We Are

United Way of the Southern Tier serves Chemung and Steuben counties in New York State. In 2018, United Way of the Southern Tier became an affiliate of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library as part of our Southern Tier Kids on Track initiative. Like you, we want all of our children to develop a love of literacy at a young age and be ready to learn when they enter school.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a free program for any child under the age of 5 who lives in Chemung or Steuben county. Parents or caregivers register their child at www.uwst.org, and developmentally-appropriate books are mailed to the child once a month.

There is no cost to families. All families are eligible.

Your donations to United Way of the Southern Tier fund the program for children in our two counties. The per-child approximate cost to mail a book each month for a year is $30.
