The Institute for Human Services is a 501(c)3 nonprofit management support organization founded in 1984. The Institute provides management support, information and referral, organizational development, and research services to planners, funders, and providers serving the Southern Tier of New York State. IHS' mission is to advance nonprofit and community partners in the region through innovative, collaborative, and responsive solutions to address community needs. Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier is a program of Steuben Rural Health Network at The Institute of Human Services, Inc. Girls on the Run has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire all girls to build their confidence, kindness, and decision-making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health. This program is implemented in the following counties: Steuben, Chemung, Yates, Allegany, Tioga, Broome, and Schuyler. This program is facilitated by volunteer coaches (and junior coaches) twice per week (each lesson is 90 minutes) for 10 weeks, this includes an end of the season 5K celebration which allows the participants to showcase the skills they learned during the season. Girls on the Run is focused on girls in 3rd through 5th grade and Heart & Sole is designed for girl’s 6th through 8th grade.
Founded in 1996, Girls on the Run International is a nonprofit that has served 2 million + girls across North America. Today's girls are exposed to longstanding gender stereotypes, societal obstacles and cultural challenges that can be detrimental to their emotional and physical health. Our programs are about so much more than running – they make an impact at a critical age when confidence and physical activity decline. Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier has been sustained since 2012 and has been dedicated to making an impact on girls' lives in our local community.
Today's girls are exposed to longstanding gender stereotypes, societal obstacles and cultural challenges that can be detrimental to their emotional and physical health. Our programs are about so much more than running – they make an impact at a critical age when confidence and physical activity decline.

The Institute for Human Services is a nonprofit management support organization founded in 1984.
IHS runs several in-house human services initiatives including Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier --- a 10-week, volunteer led, youth health and empowerment program inspiring girls in grades 3-8 to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier will benefit from your donation.
