When the snow falls and the roads turn icy, most of us can hunker down with a warm meal and wait for the storm to pass. But for hundreds of frail, homebound seniors in our community, a winter storm means something much more serious — it means hunger.

Take Margaret, for example. At 87, she lives alone and depends on Meals on Wheels for her daily nutrition and companionship. Her heart isn’t strong enough for her to cook much anymore, and her children live several states away. When winter storms hit and deliveries have to be cancelled, Margaret tell us she worries — not about the snow piling up outside, but about what she would eat until help could arrive again.
