Help us put more books into the hands and homes of children throughout the Chemung Valley.

The Family Reading Partnership of the Chemung Valley (FRPCV) is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting early literacy, increasing access to books, and making reading a joyful part of everyday life—starting at birth.

Because of the generosity of our community, we can provide thousands of free books and literacy experiences to local children and families each year. Your donation helps make that possible.

Your Donation Supports Programs Like:

Bright Red Bookshelf
Our Bright Red Bookshelves provide free new and gently used children's books at locations throughout the Chemung Valley. Children are encouraged to choose a book they love and take it home and keep it.

Outdoor Bright Red Bookshelf
Our growing Outdoor Bright Red Bookshelf program brings free books directly to parks and playgrounds. These durable, weather-resistant bookshelves are filled with children's books that families can take home and keep. FRPCV builds, installs, maintains, and regularly restocks each shelf, providing children with access to books right where they live and play.

Traveling Bright Red Bookshelf
Our Traveling Bright Red Bookshelf brings free books and read-aloud experiences directly to the community at more than 50 events each year. Children can choose books of their own while families experience the fun of reading together.

Books at Birth
We help welcome our community's newest readers from their very first days. Newborns at Arnot Ogden Medical Center receive early literacy materials, including a board book, a special “Read to Me!” onesie, and resources that encourage parents and caregivers to begin reading with their babies from birth.

Books to Grow On
Children receive books during well-child visits from 4 months through age 5 at participating healthcare practices. Medical providers also encourage parents and caregivers to make reading together part of their daily routine.

Banners & Billboards
Our banners and billboards spread messages such as “Read With Me. Any Time. Any Place!” throughout our community, reminding families that opportunities to read, talk, and share stories are everywhere.

Traveling Books
Volunteers visit participating family daycare providers each month to read with children and deliver collections of books that remain at the daycare for children to enjoy throughout the month.

Book Fest!
Our annual Book Fest is a free community celebration of literacy featuring free books, storytelling, crafts, activities, special guests, community partners, and opportunities for families to experience the joy of reading together.

Read for the Record
FRPCV participates in Jumpstart's national Read for the Record campaign, bringing our community together with readers across the country to celebrate reading and early literacy.

Help Us Reach the Next Child

Every one of these programs is offered to children and families at no cost. As an all-volunteer organization, we rely on donations, grants, sponsors, community partners, and volunteers to keep this work going.

Your donation can put a book into a child's hands. It can help stock an Outdoor Bright Red Bookshelf, provide a newborn with their first book, bring free books to a community event, support Book Fest, or help us reach another family with the message that reading together matters.
